Randy Carey has ten years experience and a masters in software engineering. He has always taken a somewhat philosophical approach to the craft. Randy was an early adapter to patterns and to the agile software development, mentoring those who wanted to learn and applying these principles to other areas of life.

Ironically, it was the eXtreme Programming (XP) movement within software development that led Randy away from that discipline. This movement elevates the role of business within the development of software. While the development side explains the costs and risks of providing features, it is the business side (now armed with this cost/risk information) that directs what features should be added next. This "revolutionary" idea led Randy to a role that focuses on identifying and providing the services business needs. More often than not, the solutions involve process improvement and the application of pre-built software instead of the expensive effort of building new software.

As Director of Information Services for a health care provider, Randy demonstrated that the agile practices which have improved the development of software can be effectively applied to improve the development and delivery of information services. It is the services (and not the technology) that business needs.
