an agile approach to letting business drive technology

information services, not IT
This is the paradigm shift that is needed in business today. What a company needs is not IT (networks, hardware, software, devices). Companies need "services" that improve the way it does business. The decision to invest in some technology must start with a business need and then consider cost-benefit-risk factors of providing the service that addresses this need. As the Harvard Business Review recently reported, "IT Doesn't Matter."

Can you see the difference between "information technology" and "information services"?   You need to understand this difference to understand this new paradigm and the benefits it brings.

the agile approach
Business requirements change very rapidly. So should the information services that support business. Randy relies upon the agile practices that he learned as a software engineer and applies them to developing the the technology and media behind those business-driven services.
business drives technology
As stated above, the decision to invest in some technology must start with a business need and then consider cost-benefit-risk factors of providing the service that addresses this problem. Most companies need people who understand technology to keep in running efficiently, but these are not the personel to drive technology investments. Business drives technology.
